“Lion In Babylon”

The lion reigns at the top of the chain

Dominate stance that’s fearless and bold

With a mane of royalty

Like shimmering gold

A crown of great stature

Wild and untamed

An undernourished belly keeps food on the brain

As the sound of his feet surely scatters the plane

Valley of dry bones

And blistering heat

Warms the soul of potential meat

Once sighted by his eyes

And shaken by his teeth

Sends fear through the bones

Of every living beast

Victims are selected from among the weak

Those that are sick

And make mistakes on their feet

Even those in their prime

And at their peaks

Lions still have needs for their young

Little hearts that compete for the right to eat

Trails of red footprints follow their feet

The lion and I live lives of the same

Hunted by man in this wild life game

And still I remain strong as a lion

And as calm as a lamb

The king must be

When he walks the land

As a black man
