“Work Out”

A coworker told me

That my boss spoke highly of me

I was pleased to hear

That my evaluation was satisfactory

I have always tried to give my best

And to be a good employee

Avoiding trouble and negligence

And anything that could destroy me

Yet

I felt like

I was hanging from a thread

And coming to the end of my rope

The pressure from my job

Was making me choke

But I didn’t give up

Nor did I let go

For I knew

Flowers bloom

From the seeds you sow

Finally I saw a glimmer of hope

Receiving praise for good works

Really helped me cope

With encouragement like that

No one could ever fall

Or get pushed off the boat

It feels good

I must confess

To know your boss thinks that you’re one of the best

It pleases my soul

And puts my mind to rest

Knowing a star is by my name

On my employers desk
